While writing is my third career (after working as a camp program director and homeschooling my kids), I have a decade of experience crafting news articles, profiles, blogposts, and digital content. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and love both the interpersonal and written aspects of my work. Some of my favorite interviews? An Affrilachian poet, Santa Claus, a shark paleontologist, a Cherokee chef, author Barbara Kingsolver, and a “parent” at the library’s teddy bear sleepover.
I have found my niche writing about people and places that are on the margins. I am a professional member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors and have been honored with a Kentucky Press Association news award and an artist enrichment grant from the Kentucky Foundation for Women.
When I am not tapping the computer keys or taking notes in my old-school steno pad, you can find me weeding my family’s urban homestead, hiking the Appalachians near my home in Berea, Kentucky, or with my nose firmly planted in a book.
